Tehran: The United States, Britain and the European Union have imposed new sanctions on Iran, accusing them of violently suppressing nationwide protests over the death of young girl Mehsa Amini in police custody. According to the international news organization, the United States has imposed sanctions on Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Cooperative Foundation and some top Iranian officials. Similarly, the UK also imposed sanctions on 5 more Iranian officials, increasing the list to 50 Iranian individuals and organizations. The European Union also blacklisted 37 Iranian officials and imposed a visa ban while freezing the assets of some entities. The US, UK and EU have said the reason for these additional sanctions is the violence against the ongoing anti-government protests in Iran and their suppression by force.
