AIMC lawyer Merajuddin Siddiqui said that he has submitted evidence that Gnanabapi Masjid is a waqf property. VVSS International General Secretary Kiran Singh filed the petition. Notably, a group of Hindu women filed a separate application for the right of worship, claiming that it was a Hindu temple site.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the plea to protect the Shivlinga on November 10. In May, the Supreme Court ordered the area to be protected. Lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing the five Hindu women, approached the Supreme Court to file the case before the expiry of protection till November 12.
The Anjuman Intifada Mosque Committee (AIMC) has challenged the sustenance of Vishwavedic Sanatan Singh’s (VVSS) petition for ban and occupation of the premises. He argued that the mosque was registered as waqf property and the civil court had no jurisdiction to hear the matter. AIMC argued that only the Wakf Tribunal has jurisdiction to hear the matter.
The Supreme Court allowed Muslims to offer prayers and directed authorities to ensure proper arrangements for religious observance by visitors to mosques.
