The Supreme Court on Thursday approved a new timeline submitted by the Justice (retd) LN Rao committee for the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) executive committee elections and said the elections will be held on December 10.
A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli also allowed circulation of the draft amended constitution among the IOA members as per rules, so that it can be adopted in the general body meeting to be held on November 10.
The bench also fixed a remuneration of Rs 20 lakh to Justice Rao for conducting a comprehensive exercise on drafting the draft constitution and said he would also outline the draft constitution for circulation among the members of the IOA.
The apex court restrained the nationwide court from entertaining any petitions related to the draft constitution or the election of the proposed executive committee and said that all such petitions would be entertained only by it.
On 10 October, the Supreme Court approved the deadline for amending the draft constitution of the IOA and its elections, as agreed at a meeting with the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland on 27 September.
It approved holding the election of the IOA’s executive committee on December 3 as a meeting of the International Olympic Committee’s executive board was scheduled to be held on December 5.
