Kolkata: On Friday, a meeting was held with the West Bengal Pollution Control Board along with the police and several puja committees at Prabandha Bhavan, where environmental awareness during Durga Puja was discussed. During this time, Puja Committees were told how to dispose of idols in accordance with environmental norms, besides noise pollution, ban on single-use plastics and thermocouples were also discussed. Welcoming various Puja Committees including police officers from Kolkata, Barrackpore, Bidhannagar and Howrah, PCB Member Secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar requested the Puja Committees to install sound limiters on microphones and burn only green crackers following the Supreme Court order.
Control room will be done
Dr. Rajesh Kumar said a control room would be set up to receive complaints, which would send the complaints to the concerned police stations. Also, a noise monitoring team will be on the streets during Durga Puja to check whether environmental norms are being followed by the Puja Committees.
Green Puja Award Announcement
PCB Chairman Dr. Kalyan Rudra announced the Sabuj Puja Award. The puja committee will be given by the environment department who will follow all the rules related to environment. Chief Engineer Subrata Ghosh and other officials were present in the meeting.
