The SCOTS Gift Card Scheme celebrates the registration of over 1,200 businesses and reports a successful campaign so far.

Over 1,200 businesses have signed up for the Scottish Loves Local Glasgow Gift Card scheme.

The surge comes after it was reported that more than £5m had been spent on the local economy since the campaign was distributed last month.

More than 85,000 households have received gift cards valued at £105 each from Glasgow City Council and 73,000 households have been activated and used.

The scheme aims to help eligible low-income households combat the ongoing cost of living crisis while providing an economic boost to the local economy.

Domestic and foreign companies have registered for the scheme, with the total number expected to exceed 1,500 in the coming months.

Household goods and utilities paid in stores are most often card-based.

Beneficiaries can choose to split the value of the card into multiple transactions and use it in businesses ranging from retail, hospitality and entertainment to public transportation.

Glasgow City Council leader Susan Aitken said:

The gift card originates from the Scottish Loves Local campaign, a project launched by the Towns Partnership of Scotland (STP) to help local businesses recover after the Covid-19 pandemic.

STP Chief Executive Phil Prentice said:

“We also encourage everyone to choose local, which shows the great potential of the card to support local economies in the long term.”

The scheme hopes to motivate residents, visitors and other businesses to support local businesses in the long term.

Fintech Miconex, like other local authorities in Scotland, manages gift cards.

Colin Munro, Managing Director of Miconex, said:

Households receiving the city tax relief as of June 1, 2022 should have automatically received a gift card, so there is no scheme application process.
