New Delhi: With 5,383 new cases of coronavirus infection reported in India in the last 24 hours, the total number of infected people in the country rose to 4,45,58,425, while the number of patients under treatment fell from 46,342 to 45,281. The total death toll in the country rose to 5,28,449 after 20 more people died of the infection, according to updated data released by the Union Health Ministry at 8 am on Friday.
The 20 deaths also include eight, whose names Kerala has added to the list of patients who have lost their lives due to the global pandemic, again matching the number of deaths due to the infection. According to the data, the number of patients under treatment for coronavirus infection in the country has decreased to 45 thousand 281, which is 0.10 percent of the total number of infected. In the last 24 hours, the number of patients under treatment has decreased by 1,061. At the same time, the national patient recovery rate rose to 98.71 percent.
Notably, the number of coronavirus cases in the country crossed 20 lakh on 7 August 2020, 30 lakh on 23 August 2020 and 40 lakh on 5 September 2020. Total cases of infection crossed 50 lakh on 16 September 2020, 60 lakh on 28 September 2020, 70 lakh on 11 October 2020, 80 lakh on 29 October 2020 and 90 lakh on 20 November 2020. On 19 December 2020, these cases crossed one crore in the country. Last year, on May 4, the number of infected crossed 20 million and on June 23, 2021, it crossed 30 million.
