Shubert, the adorable gray seal that won the hearts of residents of Beverly, Massachusetts, escaped early Friday morning from the pond he was swimming in last week.

The seal gets its name from the shoe pond where it has been living for the past few days after entering through a drainpipe, then emerged from the pond and made its way to the side door of the police station near the Cummings Center office. Park on Elliot Street.

Shoebert was transferred to the Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut for further observation and medical treatment before being released back into the wild.
