Officials of Sui Southern Gas Company revealed that gas theft rate in Balochistan is 80 percent and loss rate is 51 percent.
A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum was held under the chairmanship of Senator Abdul Qadir, where Sui Southern Gas Company officials briefed on gas load-shedding in Balochistan during winter and said that local gas supply has decreased by 400 mmcfd. And 14 billion gas is wasted in Balochistan.
Sui Southern officials revealed that 80 percent of gas thefts occur in Balochistan, Sindh gas theft accounts for 10 percent and gas theft and losses in Balochistan account for 51 percent.
Member committee member Sarfraz Bugti said that there will be no load shedding in minus temperature areas of Balochistan during winter, guarantee that there will be no load shedding of gas in these areas.
The committee sought a plan for gas load shedding in winter from the petroleum ministry.
In a briefing on deregulation of petroleum products, OGRA Chairman Masroor Khan said, Furnace oil and HOBC were deregulated first, keeping consumers in mind in every country, we are trying to make petrol and diesel as soon as possible. Deregulate as soon as possible.
Senator Dinesh Kumar objected and said why the Minister of State for Petroleum did not come to the meeting, the committees have no utility and time.
Senator Mohsin Aziz said, the country is now going through a crisis, we are preoccupied with who will be the prime minister, the country is sinking now.
Mohsin Aziz also said, “Our competition commission is an inactive institution, there is no improvement in the situation despite fines in various sectors, we should not think of deregulation at this time.”
Competition between the institutions will give relief to the public, said the Chairman of the Standing Committee.
Senator Fida Muhammed objected to what Ojira would need after deregulation. In response to which the Ogra chairman said, deregulation does not mean that our organization will not have control.
Mohsin Aziz said, SECP has taken measures in which sector including cement, steel, car, pharmaceutical and urea sectors, why are we going to deregulate petroleum products at this stage.
Secretary Petroleum Ali Raja Bhatt said that PSO has a 55% share in Pakistan’s oil market, due to its low share, other companies cannot cartelise.
Senator Mohsin Aziz opposed the deregulation of petroleum products and said that the companies will collude and increase the prices, the prices are different at each petrol pump in the market, illegal profiteering will increase, another mafia will rise.
